There is a Zen Proverb that says:
“Before Enlightenment chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment chop wood, carry water”
It’s a simple, but powerful message.
In life – before you are all seeing and all knowing, you have to do the work…and afterwards, you still have to do the work! It’s a tough one to get your head around, especially if you are impatient or are looking for the moment in your life when you are everything you hope for – and then just stay there…because the truth is; it’s a journey – and on the journey, you have to keep chipping away, every day!
Perhaps this bursts your bubble…perhaps it makes you feel better…perhaps you just let the message sit with you for a while before you decide…perhaps its a light bulb.
Whatever it is – be sure to remember to enjoy the journey AND chop the wood and carry the water!
