We are at war with a lot of aspects of our culture.. it’s so common in the mainstream media to read and hear and see headlines that speak to a war on something… terror, drugs, waste and yes, PAIN.
And often the war feels justified – after all we genuinely want people to be living free from violence, free from suffering and free from pain.. and for our planet to be free from contamination, but starting, entering or escalating WAR is surely not the answer (unless we haven’t’ learned anything from our shared history..it usually leads to MORE suffering/pain and violence)…and may in fact be the reason that despite improvements in science, pharmacology and life in general… the number of people significantly affected by pain continues to rise.
The numbers around the cost, impact and debilitating consequences of pain are real and insidious.
Chronic pain affects 3.4 million Australians* and 40 million Americans** (yes…you read right) and Pain Australia reckons it costs an estimated 46.6 billion as a result of reduction in quality of life…
It’s startling and is surely something we can’t ignore NOR can we continue to throw the same solution at it hoping it will change? (Einsteins’ definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results)
But how seriously are complementary medicines*** or alternative therapies taken in the mainstream world?
Are GPs who are seeing patients living with pain referring, providing suggestions, offering alternatives to medication?
I know when I was in my own living hell of debilitating (undiagnosable) pain it was the 21st GP I saw that was the ONLY one who offered an alternative to just taking pills… and it changed my life!
But it took a LOT of effort on my part… and I do wonder if a majority of people who are living with pain even OPEN to these alternatives (let alone the additional challenges of access/cost)
At this point in time it is MUCH easier to take a pill and put up with it than to commit to a new lifestyle routine that includes meditation, yoga, acupuncture and food/naturopathics…
And I’m always curious – at what point do people decide enough is enough… what they are doing isn’t working and they are willing to go all in to be free from the pain?
Will they wait for the cliff or do they act sooner?
Or have they convinced themselves their lives are so busy they don’t have time to get to a deeper understanding of themself.. their pain.. The context/reasons for the pain AND for so many putting themselves FIRST is, for many, a terrifying act of defiance against what they believe they ‘should put up with’ OR what they are worthy of…
It makes me wonder if healing is a luxury only afforded to the wealthy and time free?
I don’t think it is… and in my observation of many ecosystems.. the wealthy and time free are also living in a lot of pain!
But our system is rigged in favor of the quick fix bandaid solution AND an economic model that desires for people to become dependent on medication they have to keep buying – we can’t ignore the capitalist ecology we are living in when we look at the business of pain!
We are constantly addressing the symptom rather than taking the time and space to address the root cause…. and it’s to our great demise that we do this.
In my experience a LOT of pain (not all) is symptomatic of a subconscious and energetic misalignment that CAN, with the right conditions and support, be eliminated..
I am both a believer and proponent of this truth from my own life experience, from the teachers I learn from, in personal practice with a number of different modalities I have studied and from the evidence from the clients I’ve worked with who are living pain free or in a new dynamic with pain as a messenger.
There is growing evidence of this in the space where science and spirituality meet. Dr Joe Dispenza healed his broken back with the power of his mind and has supported thousands of students across the world to heal all manner of conditions, including chronic pain.
Bruce Lipton PHD, cell biologist also shows new ways in healing, saying pain is a feedback mechanism indicating that whatever is happening is not supporting the body. He says “Stop trying to kill the pain messenger and start trying to find what the message is”
Louise Hay’s book You Can Heal Your Life is a brilliant entry level exploration of the messages
pain can have for other aspects of our life and Evette Rose has a behemoth book called
Metaphysical Anatomy that goes even deeper.
If we are open to PEACE as the new dynamic with PAIN we will create so many new pathways and opportunities for healing and freedom.. It’s something I am deeply passionate about and am here to help anyone with!
